To mark the 30-year anniversary of the BMW M5 – the founder member of the high-performance business sedan segment – BMW has come up with an exclusive, special-edition version of the current, fifth-generation model boasting performance that sets it apart from its stablemates. The BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” (30 years of the M5) will be produced in a limited run of 300 examples vehicles worldwide and all units will wear an Individual Frozen Dark Silver paint with dark chrome accents.

It will be visually distinguished by its bi-color 20-inch alloys wrapped around in 265/35 ZR20 front and 295/30 ZR20 rear tires. Other goodies include an interior cabin covered in a combination of Merino leather and Alcantara with special badging and aluminum inserts.

The BMW M5 30 Jahre M5 comes fitted with the Competition Package which is optional on the regular M5 and encompasses -10mm lowered suspension, reprogrammed M Dynamic Mode, stiffer anti-sway bars and on this special M5 the V8 twin-turbo 4.4-liter engine has received a new management system as well as an increased charge pressure.

Developing 441 kW/600 hp and peak torque of 700 Nm (516 lb-ft), all wrapped around in a car that weighs 1,870 kg (4,123 lbs), the new special-edition model (fuel consumption combined: 9.9 l/100 km [28.5 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 231 g/km) is not only the most powerful BMW M5 ever to emerge from series production under the auspices of BMW M GmbH, but also the most powerful car in the history of the brand. The “30 Jahre M5” sprints from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in a lightning 3.9 seconds with the standard dual-clutch seven-speed DCT, thus making it 0.4 seconds quicker than the regular M5. Top speed is limited as standard to 155 mph (250 km/h) but with the optional M Driver's Package the electronic limiter is raised to 190 mph (305 km/h).

Its strikingly exclusive, BMW Individual-inspired looks and numerous dynamics and comfort-enhancing equipment details make this special edition a highly desirable collector’s item.

Pricing is set at £91,890 OTR (equal to US$155,880), which represents a hefty £17,950 (US$30,450) premium over the standard M5 that starts at £73,940 (US$125,425). If you must have one, you should probably make up your mind swiftly, as the UK will get 30 examples out of a total worldwide run of just 300 units.
